Special Session on

“*Hybrid Intelligent Business and Industrial Information Systems=20
(HIBI2S): techniques and applications*”
www.gsi.dec.usc.es/hibi2s/

at the

*8th International Conference on Hybrid Intelligent Systems* (HIS 2008)
10-12 September 2008, Barcelona, Spain
his2008.lsi.upc.edu/

*-AIMS AND SCOPE———— *
A number of intelligent techniques such as fuzzy logic, evolutionary=20
computing, inference systems based on descriptive logics or case based=20
reasoning, focusing on different aspects of business and industrial=20
information systems, have been discussed in the recent years. In those=20
systems where either a single of these or other non-IA related=20
techniques is implemented some aspects of the problem usually remain=20
unsolved, due to the limitations of the models. Within this context,=20
combination of a number of techniques into hybrid systems is likely to=20
be a more successful approach to complex applications such are business=20
and industrial information systems.
The aim of the session is to bring together researchers both in the=20
fields of modelling and applications of business and industrial=20
information systems, in order to present different approaches to the=20
topic, share their latest developments and discuss on future lines of=20
research and collaboration in these fields.

*–TOPICS OF INTEREST———— *
Papers dealing with the following topics (non exhaustive list) in the=20
field of hybrid intelligent information systems for business and=20
industrial processes are welcome:

- Knowledge-based business/industrial information systems
- Computational Intelligence applications and models for=20
business/industrial information systems
- Hybrid techniques for interoperability and integration between=20
information systems
- Learning models or knowledge mining techniques for information=20
extraction and processing in business/industrial information systems
- Middleware for implementing hybrid techniques in information systems
- Hybrid models for collaboration in business/industrial information=20
systems
- Hybrid techniques or applications in industrial informatics
- Workflows, Semantic Web and other AI-related modelling techniques to=20
bussiness and industrial processes management
- Service Oriented Architectures or Web-based technologies for bussiness =

and industrial processes
- any other artificial intelligence model for business and industrial=20
information systems

And also applications, prototypes, demonstrations of any of the above=20
indicated models are welcome.

*–PAPER SUBMISSION AND PROCEEDINGS————*
Prospective authors are invited to submit a tentative title of their=20
paper and a short description of the contents (max. 200 words) to the=20
organizers (see below) as soon as possible (by 25 April).
Full papers should follow the HIS 2008 guidelines (6 pages maximum, IEEE =

Journal style) and will be reviewed by at least two reviewers.
The papers accepted for this session will be published in the=20
proceedings of HIS 2008 (IEEE Computer Society Press). Extended version=20
of selected papers of the Conference will be published in several=20
Journals special issues (to be announced).

*–IMPORTANT DATES———— *
- by 25 Apr 2008: tentative title and short description
- 31 May 2008: Full paper submission
- 20 Jun 2008: Notification of acceptance
- 15 Jul 2008: Final version of the paper

*–THE CONFERENCE———— *
Following the successful editions of Hybrid Intelligent Systems=20
Conference, the Barcelona Edition HIS 2008 will provide a scientific=20
forum for the HIS community. HIS’08 will bring together researchers,=20
